On the 4th, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Park Yong-hyun) held the '2023 Doosan Yonkang Surgery Award' ceremony at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Hongun-dong, Seoul, and awarded 30 million won in prize money and a plaque to Professor Kim Jong-man of the Department of Transplant Surgery at Samsung Seoul Hospital and 10 million won to Assistant Professor Jo Jeong-rae of the Department of Trauma Surgery at Dankook University Hospital Regional Trauma Center.
Professor Kim Jong-man, the recipient, proved the need for donor stability and continuous follow-up observation after living liver transplantation.
Assistant Professor Jo Jeong-rae was selected as the recipient after discovering in an experimental model that hyaluronic acid film* improves pain after anal surgery and promotes wound healing.
* Hyaluronic acid film: A film made of hyaluronic acid in the form of a thin paper film that promotes tissue regeneration and wound healing
The Doosan Yonkang Surgery Award was established in 2007 to encourage the development of Korean surgical science and the research motivation of surgeons, and has been awarded to 39 people over the past 17 years.
