Pianist Lee Hyuk, a Doosan Yonkang Foundation scholarship recipient, won first place at the '2022 Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition' held in Paris, France on the 14th.
The French Long-Thibaud Competition is considered the most prestigious competition representing each country, along with the Chopin Competition of Poland and the Queen Elisabeth Competition of Belgium. Lee Hyuk performed Prokofiev's Concerto No. 2 in the final round where a total of 6 people advanced, and received applause from the audience, winning the honor of the final victory.
Lee Hyuk, who went to study abroad in Russia in 2014, studied at the Central Music School affiliated with the Tchaikovsky Conservatory and then at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. After the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian War, he gave up his life in Moscow and is currently pursuing a master's degree at the Ecole Normale Conservatory in France.
Lee Hyuk has demonstrated his outstanding skills on world-class stages, including winning the Moscow International Chopin Competition for Young Musicians in 2012, third place in the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, winning the Polish Paderewski Competition in 2016, third place in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan in 2018, and being a finalist in the Warsaw Chopin International Piano Competition in 2021, as well as winning the Animato Competition in France. Doosan Yonkang Foundation has been with him during his glorious moments.
Since 2012, when pianist Lee Hyuk was 12 years old, Doosan Yonkang Foundation has been supporting him by highly evaluating his talent and potential, so that he can focus solely on performing.
A Doosan Yonkang Foundation official said, “We are very happy and touched to see a pianist who has been with us for a long time finally achieve his big dream,” and added, “We will continue to provide more opportunities for young artists to showcase their talents.” The Doosan Yonkang Foundation operates various programs to support young artists, including the Doosan Yonkang Art Award, DAC Artist, and Doosan Art Lab.
Meanwhile, Lee Hyuk plans to hold his first domestic charity performance at the Chung-Ang University Art Center Grand Theater on December 20, and the proceeds will be used to treat pediatric patients hospitalized in the children's ward of Chung-Ang University Hospital.
