On October 17, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Yong-Hyun Park) held the 13th Doosan Yonkang Arts Award ceremony at the Doosan Art Center Yonkang Hall in Jongno 5-ga, Seoul, and awarded the awards to playwright and director Hong-Do Lee (Performance Division) and artist Hee-Min Jeong (Art Division).

The Doosan Yonkang Foundation will provide a total of 290 million won to the winners. Each winner will receive 30 million won in prize money, with 150 million won for the production cost of a new performance for the performance category winner and 80 million won for the art category winner for the Doosan Gallery exhibition cost, overseas residency, stay, and airfare.

Playwright and director Hong-Do Lee, winner of the performance category, continues his unique path by raising multifaceted questions about all artificial boundaries such as gender and race. He expressed his feelings, saying, “I am grateful for the great trust shown to a little-known playwright with the name of ‘Doosan Yonkang Art Award.’”

Jeong Hee-min, the winner of the art category, is a painter who has been active since 2015 and has been expressing his diverse works. In his acceptance speech, Jeong said, “I gained the courage to see further and wander for a long time. I would like to show more mature works using the various opportunities provided by Doosan as a stepping stone.”

Park Yong-hyun, the chairman of the Doosan Yonkang Foundation, congratulated the winners and said, “It is the responsibility and duty of a company to support artists who are constantly striving to build a unique world of works and expand their artistic world. I hope that this award will be a source of encouragement for those who will lead our culture and arts in the future.”

The Doosan Yonkang Art Award was established in 2010, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yonkang, to continue the will of Doosan's first chairman, Park Doo-byung, who emphasized the importance of talent. It selects and supports young artists under the age of 40 with high growth potential in the performing arts and fine arts fields. As of 2022, a total of 40 artists (teams) in the performing arts and fine arts fields have received the award.
