On October 15, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Park Yong-hyun) held the 12th Doosan Yonkang Arts Awards ceremony at the Doosan Art Center Yonkang Hall in Jongno 5-ga, Seoul, and announced that the winners were playwright and director Seol Yu-jin (Performance Division) and artist company eobchae (3-person team, Art Division).

The winners will receive a total of 270 million won in benefits. In addition to 30 million won in prize money, the winner in the Performance Division will receive 150 million won in new performance production costs, and the winner in the Art Division will receive 60 million won in Doosan Gallery exhibition costs.

Seol Yu-jin, winner in the Performance Division, said, “I will continue to think about why and how a human being living here should be free from what and how to love, and try to make it into a play.” The winner of the art category, eobchae, said, “When the three of us were thinking, ‘What’s the use of sending fake glass bottle letters in the vast net?’, we heard the news of the award,” and added, “We are grateful that it was received no matter where the coordinates were.”

Park Yong-hyun, chairman of the Doosan Yonkang Foundation, congratulated the winners and said, “2021 is still a difficult time for all of us, and it is an even more difficult time for artists. I hope that this award will provide comfort and support to those who will lead our culture and arts in the future.”

The Doosan Yonkang Art Award was established in 2010, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yonkang, in honor of the will of Doosan’s first chairman, Park Du-byung, who emphasized the importance of talent. It selects and supports young artists under the age of 40 with high growth potential in the performing arts and art fields.
