Doosan Yonkang Foundation awards the 2020 Doosan Yonkang Environmental Academic Awards

On the 11th, Doosan Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Yong-Hyun Park) held the '2020 Doosan Yonkang Environmental Academic Award' ceremony at Jeju Shinhwa World, and announced on the 12th that it awarded 20 million won and a plaque to Professor Won-Yong Choi of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology, and 10 million won and a plaque each to Professor Jeong-Eun Oh of the Department of Social and Environmental Systems Engineering at Pusan National University and Professor Jin-Young Jeong of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Yeungnam University.


Professor Won-Yong Choi was selected as the winner for successfully developing an indoor air purifier that dramatically improved the lifespan and performance of filters with his thesis titled 'Active {001} Facet Exposed TiO2 Nanotubes Photocatalyst Filter for Volatile Organic Compounds Removal: From Material Development to Commercial Indoor Air Cleaner Applocatio'.


Professor Jeong-Eun Oh contributed to the establishment of a policy for managing hazardous substances in tap water and river water by revealing the difference between pollution in drinking water and pollution in water sources with his thesis titled 'Evaluation of the current contamination status of PFASs and South Korean tap water associated with its origin'.


Professor Jeong Jin-yeong presented a method to achieve the highest nitrogen removal rate in a single anammox* bioreactor with various microorganisms in his paper titled ‘Optimization of nitrogen removal performance in a single-stage SBR based on partial nitrogenation and ANAMMOX’.
*Anamox: Microorganism species that metabolize using nitrogen or a process that utilizes it


The Doosan Yonkang Environmental Academic Award was established last year as an extension of the environmental safety research support project that the Doosan Yonkang Foundation has been conducting for 25 years from 1993 to 2017, in order to promote the development of Korean environmental studies and to encourage research motivation among environmental professionals.
