The Yonkang Foundation held a ceremony at Hotel Sofitel Ambassador, Jangchun-dong, Seoul at 5pm on 24 August 2007 to celebrate its publication of its 'Reportage on Japanese Science Education', a compilation of the personal experiences of the teachers who

participated in the 1st Science Teacher Overseas Academic Tour.

Undertaken by the 2006 Science Teacher Award winners over a period of 5 days last January, the 1st Science Teacher Overseas Academic Tour was designed to enhance their students' growing interest in science by having the teachers personally experience

advanced science technologies.

Includes Live Experience Story of Advanced Scientific Facilities At Home and Abroad

The 'Reportage on Japanese Science Education' just published by the Yonkang Foundation includes information about various science facilities and museums in Japan as well the teachers' live report of their experience of advanced science facilities at home and

abroad.

The book will serve as an excellent reference material for science teachers and students, as it includes accounts of the personal views and feelings of the teachers at such sites as the Changwon Machinery Complex where Doosan's science and industrial technologies

are clustered, including Doosan Heavy Industries, Doosan Infracore, and Doosan Engine, Science Halls in Chiba and Tokyo, and the Combined Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Aerospace Research Center, also in Japan.

"The reportage features sharp observation by science teachers and diverse informative pieces about science and industrial facilities both at home and abroad," said Yong-hyeon Park, the chairman of the Yonkang Foundation, expressing his gratitude at the ceremony.

"We will contribute to the resurrection of local science education by regularly conducting a 'Tour of Academic Facilities Overseas' and publishing this 'Reportage by Science Teachers' each year."

Overseas tour scheduled for developing science

Meanwhile, this year's Science Teacher Award is to be presented to science teachers who have made distinguished achievements in creative science education, arousing their students' interest and stimulating their creativity and progress in science subjects.

The award was founded in 2003 and has been given four times. The teachers who participated in the tour arranged by the Yonkang Foundation have made outstanding achievements in the special education of the talented and have organized creativity classes.

The tour was all the more significant as they took a positive attitude towards exchanging information among themselves or volunteering explanations of areas coming within their specialty whenever they visited the sites.

The Yonkang Foundation disclosed it will sponsor the overseas science tour for this year's Science Teachers each year under a service agreement with the Korean Science Foundation with the purpose of advancing science education in Korea.
