2008.03.28

On March 28, the Yonkang Foundation, a scholarship and research foundation created by the Doosan Group headed by Y.H. Park, donated 100 million won toward cancer research to Seoul National University Hospital.

The fund will be used for a research project led by Professor Sun-Whe Kim of the Dept. of Surgery, titled "The Safest Method for Blood Vessel Ligation: A Comparison of Ligation Methods," and two other projects.

This billion-won cancer research fund program, for the benefit of Seoul National University Hospital, began in 2005, and a grant of 100 million won is disbursed every year until 2015, to fund three select fundamental research projects with clinical application.

"Cancer used to be an incurable disease, but those days are soon to be over," commented President Y.H. Park. "Yet, until there is more concrete and decisive progress toward finding a cure, we must keep up support for fundamental research," he added.

The Yongkang Foundation, established in 1978, provides scholarships and sponsors research and cultural projects in wide-ranging fields.
