Doosan Group’s Yonkang Foundation and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education held a signing ceremony for the ‘Doosan Youth Athletic Scholarship Program’ on April 7.
The Doosan Youth Athletic Scholarship Program was developed to promote sports at schools and train talented young athletes.
Yonkang Foundation plans to give a total of 300 million won over a period of three years (100 million won every year until 2011) to school sports teams under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Seongdong District Office of Education and Jungbu District Office of Education.
The spokesperson of Yonkang Foundation explained that while improving overall athletic performance, the scholarship program will also help narrow the educational gap in the area of sports by offering financial support to underprivileged athletes.
Yonkang Foundation decided to manage the scholarship fund with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in order to improve the reliability of sports administration at schools and create a healthy environment for sports teams while also ensuring practical
and educational management of school sports teams.
After handing over the scholarship fund, Chairman of Yonkang Foundation Y.H. Park said, "School sports are an integral part of education that helps youth develop a healthy body and mind.
I wish this fund will serve as a small seed for talented young athletes to achieve their dreams and ambitions in a better environment, and become a successful athlete like Yu-Na Kim or Tae-Hwan Park."
Since 1978, Doosan Yonkang Foundation has been dedicated to offering scholarship, academic, and cultural programs.
