Yonkang Foundation published a travel essay book, entitled “Time Journey of 1,500 Years,” which compiles accounts of personal experience of teachers, who participated in the 19th history and social studies teachers’ overseas academic study tours.
The tours were conducted in June and July 2008.
At a ceremony commemorating the publishing of the book held at the Sofitel Ambassador Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Seoul at 5 pm on January 16, all teachers who participated in the 19th overseas academic study tours got together, remembered their memories from
tour sites, and exchanged views on education of students.
The tours took teachers to Baekdusan Mountain, a sacred mountain of the Korean people, and Yanji where many ethic Koreans live, and explored cultural properties from the Korean ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo in Jian, China, as well as cultural legacies of
the ancient Korean kingdom of Baekje in the Aska region, Japan.
Thanking teachers who contributed quality essays and photos, Chairman Y.H. Park of Yonkang Foundation said, “Inheriting and developing history and spiritual culture is an important agenda even in the knowledge and information era when the world engages in unlimited competition, and the foundation will continue to support programs that enable teachers at education frontiers to boost their capacity.”
A total of 1,813 teachers have participated in teachers’ overseas study tours, which have been offered on 19 occasions since 1989 when Korea and China had yet to forge diplomatic ties.
The program has become a representative overseas study tour program for teachers in Korea.
