Doosan Yonkang Foundation delivers 1.2 billion won (US$ 8.5 million) in scholarships
Doosan’s Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Y.H. Park) held the “Doosan scholarship awards ceremony for 2009” and presented 385 students with a total of 1.2 billion won (US$ 8.5 million) in scholarships and memorabilia at Doosan Tower in Euljiro-6 ga, Jung-gu, Seoul on March 13.
The Yonkang Foundation awarded scholarships for education through middle school to 215 elementary and middle school students who are currently serving as head of their families, and full tuition fees until their graduation to 71 high school students and 99 college
students who have a good academic record and the recommendation of their principals. Chairman Park said at the ceremony, “The competitiveness of the nation depends on the quality of the human resources it secures. We hope that these Yonkang scholarships will
in a small way help students develop their dreams and grow into effective global human resources.”
The Yonkang Foundation, affiliated with Doosan, is an academic and cultural foundation which grants scholarships and supports academic and cultural projects. Established in 1978, the foundation has awarded scholarships through diverse programs, including
scholarships for Chinese studies, Doosan Young Sportsmen Scholarships, special scholarships for students in areas affected by floods, and scholarships for Korean language departments in elite universities overseas.
