Chairman Y.H. Park of Doosan Yonkang Foundation delivered scholarships worth a total of US$ 1 million and souvenir gifts to students at the 2013 Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony of Doosan Yonkang Foundation at the Yonkang Building in Yeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on February 25.
This year’s 383 beneficiaries of scholarships include elementary and middle school students who are supporting their families, as well as high school and college students who their school authorities recommend among ones from low-income households.
Among beneficiaries, the college students will participate in a ‘Doosan Yonkang Scholarship Student Mentoring Volunteer Work’ program hosted by the foundation, and serve as study mentors of students at local child welfare centers.
The program, beginning this year, is aimed at promoting talent donation and reducing the cost of private tutoring for the underprivileged in the education field.
Chairman Park said, “The competitiveness of a state derives from the quality of its human resources, and such human resources are nurtured through education,” adding, “I hope that the Yonkang Foundation’s scholarship students will devote themselves to study,
and grow to become future leaders of the country.”
Established in 1978, the Yonkang Foundation is a charitable academic foundation that provides scholarships and supports academic and cultural projects.
