On the 6th, Doosan Yonkang Foundation held the '2024 Doosan Yonkang Environmental Academic Award' ceremony at the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers academic conference held at the Yeosu Expo Convention Center and awarded Professor Kim Jeong-hwan of Inha University with 30 million won in prize money and a plaque of 10 million won to Professor Lee Chang-soo of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology.
Professor Kim Jeong-hwan, who was selected as the winner, was recognized for his achievements in presenting an energy-producing sewage treatment technology that recovers methane (CH4), the main component of natural gas, from sewage using membrane filtration technology.
Professor Lee Chang-soo presented a method to improve performance and safety by utilizing magnetic iron ore particles in the process of turning organic wastewater containing organic matter into biogas.
The Doosan Yonkang Environmental Academic Award was established in 2019 as an extension of the environmental safety research support project that the Doosan Yonkang Foundation has been conducting for 25 years from 1993 to 2017, and has been continuously conducted to promote the development of Korean environmental studies and to encourage research motivation among environmental professionals.
