The spirit of Yonkang, Too Pyung Park, who had a profound aspiration for the development of his nation and people, lives on in the active contributions of Doosan Yonkang Foundation. His spirit will remain with Doosan Group, a company with more than 100 years of tradition and the trust of our fellow people.
Doosan Yonkang Foundation was founded in 1978, five years after the death of Yonkang, Too Pyung Park (1910~1973), the first chairman of Doosan Group, who have always strived to develop Korea’s commerce and industry and foster talents.
Yonkang transformed a small store, the Park Seung-Jik Shop, which first set foot at the end of the 19th century, into a modern company, laying the cornerstone for the foundation of Doosan Group. He was the first one in Korea to adopt a groundbreaking management method which completely separates capital and management . With a firm belief that "economic development must be accomplished to build a society with social welfare," he dedicated his life to Korea's economic growth. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce in 1976, and led the way in the development of industries and the protection of the rights of entrepreneurs nationwide.
Yonkang, who had already thought of various ways for companies to fulfill their social responsibilities at that time, planned the establishment of an research foundation with the mission of fostering talents, as he believed that “education is the driving force of a nation's development”. However, he passed away in 1973 at the age of 63, without having the chance to accomplish his plan. After his death, his followers pushed ahead with the plan to honor his will, and established Doosan Yonkang Foundation on October 4, 1978.
Too Pyung Park's aspirations for the development of the nation and his people will always live on in Doosan Yonkang Foundation’s efforts to fulfill its social responsibilities, and will remain with Doosan Group, a company with more than 100 years of tradition and the trust of our fellow citizens.
