I ask for your generous encouragement and support for the various social welfare activities that Doosan Yonkang Foundation will carry out.
Doosan Yonkang Foundation, established in 1978 to commemorate the late Yonkang, Too Pyung Park's lifelong belief that 'education is the driving force of a nation's development', has contributed to academic advancement by actively supporting basic science research as well as educational and cultural programs, as well as playing a part in the development of our nation and society.
Doosan Yonkang Foundation offers various scholarships for talented young people to grow to be the pillars of our nation. The foundation’s scholarships include the Doosan Yonkang Scholarship, which is for high school and university students with outstanding achievement even in difficult circumstances; the Doosan Scholarship for Teenagers in Need, which is given to elementary school students without parents; the Chinese Research Scholarship, which supports scholars’ study at prestigious universities in China; The foundation also supports the establishment of Korean language courses in universities abroad, and provides scholarships for students in foreign universities.
The foundation supports fundamental research activities which might find difficulties to get support otherwise. It also provides professors specializing in environmental studies nationwide with research funds to help preserve the environment we live in. The 'Doosan Yonkang Academic Award' is given to young medical scientists to encourage their research.
The foundation has sponsored history and social studies teachers’ visits to Korean cultural assets in Japan and China since 1989 to help them explore our ancient history and raise historical awareness. The program has since been extended to teachers of all subjects as an observation tour to learn about overseas economies. From 2007, it has been sponsoring science teachers to visit advanced scientific facilities or sites at home and abroad so that they can use the experience to teach our children.
Book donations to schools in remote areas and children's hospitals provide books by letting the teachers and students pick the books they need, so that they can receive the actual books they need. Also, donating books to Koreans living abroad such as China and Russia is one of the important programs we run to fulfill our social responsibilities.
To commemorate the 111th anniversary of Doosan Group, the foundation renovated Yonkang Hall, which has served as a cultural venue since 1993, into a 620-seat professional musical theater with a state-of-the-art sound, lighting and stage system. 'Space 111', a small theater where young artists can perform in dramas, dance or concerts, and the 'Doosan Gallery' for open exhibitions, were also built during the renovation of the hall, which was renamed as the Doosan Art Center in 2007. As a composite cultural space, the Doosan Art Center will continue supporting performing art as well as visual art, and will continue with its mission to discover and foster promising artists.
Based on sound and transparent entrepreneurship, Doosan Yonkang Foundation will continue supporting various academic and cultural programs that contribute to our culture and the development of the nation in order to fulfill our social responsibilities. I ask for your generous encouragement and support for the diverse social welfare activities that Doosan Yonkang Foundation will carry out as a member of Doosan Group, a growing global enterprise of the 21st century.
